French Ligue 1 Takes A Jab At Arsenal After "Farmers League Strikes" In The Champions League

French Ligue 1 took to their social media account to share a savage post as Lens defeated EPL side Arsenal 2-1 in the Champions League match.

The loss was Arsenal’s first loss of the season as Lens came back from behind to beat Premier League giants at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Gabriel Jesus scored first to give the Gunners the lead but goals from Adrien Thomasson and Elye Wahi sealed a memorable win for the French club.

Mikel Arteta’s men failed to run riot on the Ligue 1 side despite their massive run of form at the start of the season.

Ligue 1 did not hesitate to take to their social media page to mock Arsenal and well the football world that belittles them.

The French League took to their X account (formerly twitter) immediately after the final whistle and posted five worded caption saying: “Farmers League Strikes Again.”

What Does The Farmers League Jibe By Ligue 1 Means?

The “Farmers League Strikes Again” comment from Ligue one was in reference to the derogatory jibes thrown around by fans, who consider the league one of the weakest in Europe by tagging it Farmers League.

The jibe also claims that those playing in the league have taken up farming as their day job and then play football in the evening.

However, in European football, the ‘top five leagues’ comprise the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

French Ligue 1 Takes A Jab At Arsenal After Champions League Defeat

After the jab from Ligue 1, Arsenal will lick their wounds, as they shift focus to the Premier League as they face Man City this Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men are looking to battled it against the league leaders City though they have their key man Bukayo Saka injured.

Arsenal will now face the task of regrouping, analyzing their shortcomings, and strategizing ahead of the upcoming matches to maintain their contention in both domestic and European competitions.

Recall we reported that Bukayo Saka limped off injured in the first half of Arsenal’s Champions League encounter with French side Lens on Tuesday night.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has been battling fitness issues for the last two weeks but Arteta played him over the weekend against Bournemouth.

Saka struggled in the Champions League against Lens and was substituted in the 34th minute after he couldn’t continue.

This development has handed Arsenal a major scare as they face title rivals Manchester City at the Emirates on Sunday.

Well, that wasn’t the concern of the French Ligue 1 as they took the opportunity to troll the Premier League giants.

Will Mikel Arteta’s men put that behind them and deal with Pep Guardiola’s men this weekend? Well, time shall tell.
