Manchester United midfielder, Fred is not happy that the club decided to settle for a short-term plan by appointing coach Ralf Rangnick as the club’s interim manager for the rest of the 2021-2022 season.

The 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder wished Manchester United had opted for a long-term plan by appointing a coach on a long-term deal.

Recall that Manchester United had to sack coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mid-season due to a poor run of games. Afterward, the club appointed a former player of the club, Micheal Carrick as a caretaker coach.

After a series of back and forth, Manchester United announced that German veteran coach, Ralf Rangnick has been appointed as an interim manager for the rest of the season.

The arrival of the German coach has improved the fortunes of Manchester United even though the club is yet to return to the top of English football.

United which used to be a Premier League title contender are now battling with Southampton, West Ham United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur to qualify for the 4th spot on the league table.

As it stands, the 2021-2022 season is gradually looking like another season in which the Red Devils will win no title despite the array of superstars at the club. The only title that Manchester United have the possibility of winning this season is the UEFA Champions League.

Fred says coach Ralf Rangnick’s appointment is strange:

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match against Atletico Madrid scheduled to kick off at 21:00 later today, February 23, Fred described United’s decision to make a short-term appointment as strange.

“It is a bit strange,” Fred told TNT Sports Brazil. “I know in football it’s important to get good results as soon as possible, but it’s also important to have a long-term plan.

“I think it’s a little bit bad for us not to have one, at the moment it’s all about the short-term goals. We don’t know how it’s going to be after the end of this season.”

Fred belives Manchester United can win the UEFA Champions League

Despite noting that United got it wrong for appointing an interim coach, Fred believes that the Premier League club have all it takes to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.

While admitting that Manchester United have not been playing as well as they used to play, the 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder stressed that it would not be crazy if United win this season’s UEFA Champions League.

“I know we’re not playing our best football, but we have a lot of quality names in our squad”, Fred said. “I see many other teams playing far off from their best as well.

“[To win it] wouldn’t be crazy, it could happen, but we have to work our socks off because we’re far away from being one of the favorites in this competition.”
