Former Tottenham captain Ledley King joins Mourinho’s coaching staff.

Jose Mourinho has announced that the former club captain Ledley King will join his coaching team next season.

Earlier, Mourinho had announced that his technical analyst and assistant coach would depart to find his path as head coach in another club.

Tottenham had booked their Europa League spot for next season with a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on the last day of the season on Sunday, as Mourinho confirmed the new addition during his post-match briefing.

“I don’t think the club will be upset with me by making it official we are going to replace Ricardo with Ledley King. I met him. I worked quite closely with him in this period. I know what he can give, and he’s very happy to do it. The fans, of course, love him, and he’s one more connection with our fans, the local community, from the young people that he knows from the academy.”

The former captain and defender spent his entire career at Tottenham Hotspur from 1999-2012 playing over 300 games for the London club, in 2009 he was named as the club’s 25th best player of all time. He also has 21 caps for England scoring two goals at the UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2010 FIFA World cup. He had his best season in between 2004 and 2007 during which he won the player of the month award for September. He was forced to retire in 2012 due to a chronic Knee injury. The former captain has been working for the club as an ambassador since retiring.

One of the reason for Jose Mourinho’s choice of Ledley King is his experience as one of the club’s best centre back . Tottenham conceded two or more games in Morinho’s first 10 games in charge as Ledly King is brought in to help bring sanity to its defence.

The team is gearing up as the reason restart in less than eight weeks. Mourinho has identified his transfer targets, reports have linked him to numerous players as they are in the market to fill numerous positions, Schalke defender Ozan Kabak has been reported to be on in negotiation with the club as they seek to solve their defensive woes.

Southampton ‘s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Atlanta full-back Timothy Castagne with Callum Wilson set as a possible back-up for the club’s striker and captain Harry Kane.
