Former Manchester United player Eric Bailly was subbed off at half-time during a match against Antalyaspor.

The Ivory Coast International was taken off after getting involved in an inappropriate bust-up with his teammate named Tayfur Bingol.

What has happened to Eric Bailly?

Eric Bailly was filmed in an angry mood during a match between Besiktas versus Antalyaspor in a Turkish Super Lig clash on Sunday, 5th of November.

During a Besiktas match against Antalyaspor, Cenk Tosun had given the Istanbul powerhouse the lead just before half-time but the home team came back in the second half to secure a 3-2 win.

Notably, before the halftime whistle ended, Erik Bailly was pictured approaching his teammate Bingol, before reaching out, he grabbed the player’s jersey and pulled him aggressively.

A shocked Bingol flipped to meet a fuming Bailly before former Tottenham Hotspur loanee Gedson Fernandes noticed that the scene could get out of hand, and intervened.

There is a big possibility that things boiled over at half-time since Bailly was subbed off and replaced by Valentin Rosier.

Besiktas later lost the match by three goals to two in the absence of Eric Bailly.

After the match, the former Manchester United defender took to his social media page and apologized for his aggressive behavior, he wrote; “Competitive tension pushes us to greater success, and that is all we want”.

He added; “We all want to win and want the best. I apologize to the manager, my teammates, and the Besiktas family for my mistake. Heads up and focus on the next one”.

Besiktas’ temporary manager Burak Yilmaz also explained why he decided to replace Bailly at half-time.

Burak Yilmaz confirmed after the final whistle that; “There was a problem with Eric Bailly during the half-time. That’s why I took him off. There is no injury situation. I took him out of the game due to an inappropriate move”.

    Who’s Eric Bailly?

    Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly is a professional football player who plays as a defender for the Ivory Coast national team and the Turkish club side Besiktas.

The former Man United player made 116 appearances throughout six injury-hit campaigns with the Old Trafford outfit and was former United manager Jose Mourinho’s first signing during the coach’s tenure with the Red Devils.

The Ivorian center-back joined Manchester United from Spanish club side Villarreal for a fee reportedly worth 30 million pounds.

After a favorable first season in which he assisted the Red Devils in winning the Europa League title, Community Shield, and EFL Cup, injuries jeopardized Bailly’s Old Trafford career.

His spell at Old Trafford was tarnished by constant injury crises which prohibited the center-back from truly nailing down a regular playing time in the United team.

Having failed to satisfy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick after Mourinho was shown the exit midway through his third season, Eric Bailly determined that the 2022 summer was his time to leave Man United after the appointment of Erik ten Hag.

The hard working defender moved to France and joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal, before leaving United permanently during the summer transfer window.

    What’s next for Eric Bailly?

Following his apology, the 29-year-old will be hoping to get back into Besiktas squad when the Turkish giant faces Bodo Glimt in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, 9th of November.
