Victor Moses has returned to English football four years after leaving for a spell with Russian club Spartak Moscow.
Championship club Luton Town announced the signing of the 33-year-old as a free agent after his Spartak Moscow contract expired this summer.
Luton Town initially invited the Nigerian footballer for a trial before deciding to hand him a contract. Speaking after signing the player, Luton Town head coach Rob Edwards said:
“Victor is one we’ve been talking to for quite a while. He trained with us last week and played 60 minutes in a behind closed doors game, and we made a decision because we think he’s able to come in and help us.”
Victor Moses is renowned for his spell at Chelsea from 2012 to 2021 where he won the Premier League title with the club in 2017.
He also won the Serie A with Napoli on a loan spell with the club in the 2019-20 season and is expected to bring the wealth of his experience to bear as the Hatters push for promotion to the English top flight again.
Victor Moses’ career
Victor Moses began his career in English football. He played for Crystal Palace Academy from 2002 to 2007.
He was promoted to the Eagles’ first team in 2007, where he made 58 league appearances with 11 goals before joining Wigan Athletic in 2010. At Wigan, Victor Moses made 74 league appearances, scoring eight goals in two seasons.
In 2012, he made the big move to Chelsea, joining the club for €11m after Wigan turned down four bids from Chelsea. Moses scored on his first full Chelsea debut, helping the club to a 6-0 League Cup win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. He went on to make 128 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 18 goals.
Meanwhile, during his spell with the Blues which lasted for nine years, the former Nigeria international endured a torrid career stint from 2013 to 2016. He was sent on loan spells each season to different clubs amidst the competition in the Blues’ squad. He was first loaned to Liverpool, then Stoke City and West Ham before settling back into the team from 2017 to 2019.
In 2019, he was loaned to Turkish club Fenerbache. His final two loan spells were with Inter Milan in Serie A and then to Spartak Moscow in Russia. At Spartak Moscow, he finally found a home. The Russian club converted his loan deal to a permanent move. After three seasons, Victor Moses made 63 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals.
Victor Moses international career
Victor Moses began his international career, playing for England U-16 in 2005. From 2006 to 2007, he featured for England’s U-17, making 15 appearances and scoring nine goals.
He also played for the U-19s from 2008 to 2009, making 12 appearances, and scoring two goals. In 2010, he made one appearance for the U-21.
Switching to Nigeria national team
In 2011, Victor Moses applied to switch his nationality from England to Nigeria to be eligible to play for Nigeria. The application was not received by the world’s football governing body. However, it was later approved on November 1, 2011.
In 2012, he made his debut for Nigeria and went ahead to win 38 caps with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, scoring 12 goals.
Victor Moses honors
Victor Moses won the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2017. He also won the FA Cup in 2018 and two Europe League titles in 2013 and 2019.
On the international scene, he won the 2013 African Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
Victor Moses’ Luton contract
Victor Moses has signed a permanent contract with Luton Town. Terms of agreement with the club have yet to be disclosed but the club has confirmed a deal has been sealed. He is expected to join the club in the ongoing 2024-25 Championship campaign.
