Andre Schurrle has taken the gauntlet to take part in the heinous challenge of trekking up a mountain half-naked in ice-cold conditions.

Schurrle retired from football in 2020 at the age of 29 and was a big loss to the German national team given his grace, skill, and sensational moves on the pitch.

Speaking on why he hung the boots, Schurrle said he needed to get off the lanes of suffocating competition that has swept through the game.

He explained “loneliness and endless competition, made him retire from the game prematurely at age 29.”

Before bowing out of the football stage, Andre Schurrle brought his legendary strides in the game to bear. He won the 2014 World Cup with Germany and Premier League with Chelsea the following year.

Andre Schurrle shared several images on social media of him climbing a mountain topless in freezing weather.

The mountain climbing challenge is said to be designed by motivational speaker and extreme athlete Wim Hof.

Bringing his experiences on the challenge to millions of followers on his Instagram handle, Andre Schurrle revealed the challenge is the hardest physical exercise he has undergone after football and he needed something larger than him, inside him to keep him going.

However, he added he has discovered the amazing power of his mind and soul if he puts them together, and his body has become stronger than he thought.

“Day 3 of the @iceman_hof experience and up the summit with our beautiful crew”, he wrote on social media.

“The hardest mental and physical thing I ever did! The last minutes i couldn’t feel anything and i had to find something deep inside me to keep going!

“An experience that I will never forget! -19 degrees, 100 km/h wind in our faces, heavy snow, and rain!

    “Thanks @sukkhadas @nonokonopka @hgebang #linus for an unforgettable trip❤️ #noegowego 📸 @mountainguide_iml.”
