Mark Lawrenson, a former Liverpool defender, has made his prediction for the Reds’ crucial Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, May 22.

To snare the league title, Jurgen Klopp’s team must win at Anfield and hope that leaders Manchester City lose at home to Aston Villa. In 2022, the Reds have yet to lose a domestic match. Lawrenson is certain that his former team will maintain their unbeaten record against the Black Country club.

After Jurgen Klopp made nine changes from the side that won the FA Cup on Saturday, Liverpool’s triumph at Southampton on Tuesday was such an impressive outcome. They will hope to repeat that or do better against Wolves on Sunday.

Ahead of the clash, Mark Lawrenson said: “Liverpool’s heavy guns will be returning for this game, and I don’t see Wolves posing a threat. They appeared to have called it a season a few weeks ago. A win will not be enough for the Reds to win the title unless Manchester City lose points against Aston Villa, but I don’t think the mood at Anfield will be gloomy if they miss the out. I don’t think that will happen.

Lawrenson also stated that the Reds would have a warm welcome from the home crowd after winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. They currently trail City by one point in the league and will meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28.

“No one expected them to win the league, and they will be greeted with a standing ovation after winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup”, the ex-footballer said. “The most important thing is the send-off they’ll get before the Champions League final in Paris the following weekend—everyone knows that’s the best way to cap off a fantastic season. “

For the midweek (May 17) match at Southampton, the German manager made nine changes from the side that won the FA Cup against Chelsea.

Klopp has intimated that Mohamed Salah may not be risked against Wolves ahead of the Champions League final six days later. The coach said: “Everything seems good. I’m not sure what we’ll do with them this weekend. We completely understand Son Heung’s goal-scoring competition, but there’s no way we’re going to give up (risk). I do not doubt that Mo does not want to take any risks.

“It appears to be in decent shape, and the guys have taken some steps forward, but only time will tell. For rhythm reasons, I’d prefer for them to play on the weekend, or at the very least be on the bench so we can bring them on, but if that is not possible, we’ll see what happens. I am unable to say 100 percent.”

Note that due to a groin injury, the Egyptian was forced to leave the FA Cup final again Chelsea in the first half but his team ended up winning via penalties.
