Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told Manchester United to sell their star player Cristiano Ronaldo even though the club has no plan of replacing him with another top player.
According to Floyd Hasselbaink, Ronaldo is unhappy with the club and he suggested that the fund generated from the transfer could still be used to strengthen the squad.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has clearly stated that he’s ready to leave Old Trafford this summer after the club had a difficult 2021/22 season and missed out on the UEFA Champions League competition.
Although he finished last season as the club’s highest goal scorer with 24 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he doesn’t want to finish his iconic career playing in low European competitions.
After finishing last season in the sixth position, Manchester United will be fighting in the UEFA Europa League competition next season and Ronaldo is not ready to play in the competition as he prefers the Champions League.
Clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and AS Roma have all shown interest in signing the Portugal hitman since he made his intentions known. However, Man United authorities have stated that their legend is not for sale this summer as he still has a year left in his contract with them.
In his reaction to the ongoing transfer saga, Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Man United should reconsider the decision of not allowing the football icon to exit the club this summer.
According to the ex-footballer, if Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave then the club should let him go. He added that Ronaldo is at the age where he might want to play another season in the UEFA Champions League competition and Man United should try and get enough money from his transfer.
Floyd Hasselbaink said: “You do not want an unhappy player – especially a player of that caliber.
“You want him to be happy. If you are going to work with Ronaldo you know that you are going to build your team around him. But if he is not happy, with the amount of money that you pay, maybe use that for some other players and use it within the squad. You are not going to be able to replace him but you can make the team better in a different place.”

Ronaldo has made it more difficult for United by declining to report to training this week, however, the club has accepted this after the player mentioned that he has been away from the club due to family duties.
The Red Devils are scheduled to fly to Australia and Thailand this Friday for pre-season games, but there are serious concerns that Ronaldo won’t be on board. It would be terrible from a football sense, as well as a major blow commercially if Ronaldo’s absence lingers on.
