Arne Slot is set to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s next manager at the end of the season after Liverpool reached agreement with Feyenoord
Futballnews takes a look at five interesting facts you may not have known about the Premier League-bound Dutch tactician.
- Arne Slot had never tasted international football during his playing career
The soon-to-be Liverpool manager has not tasted international football before. He had a sterling individual career but could break into the Dutch national team. For the records. He has never played for their youth levels as well.
- Arne Slot’s entire playing career was in the Netherlands
Unlike some emerging football managers like Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen and Thiago Motta of Bologna, Arne Slot had his entire playing career in his home country, the Netherlands.
He played for three different clubs – Zwolle, NAC Breda, and Sparta Rotterdam, scoring 100 league goals in 462 appearances.
- Arne Slot is married with children
Slot has a blossoming family with his lifelong partner and wife Mirjam. They have two children together Joep and Isa. Like other football managers, the Dutch rarely shows off his family on social media.
- Retirement and managerial career
Arne Slot called time on his playing career in 2013 and took up managerial duties in 2016 with second-division side Cambur. After a three-year stint with Cambur, he joined AZ Alkmaar in 2019 and nearly won the Eredivisie title with the club in his debut season in 2020.
He would win the trophy two years later but on his third club Feyenoord as a manager.
- Arne only two trophies with no individual awards throughout his playing career
Arne Slot started his career with Zwolle in 1995. Six years later, he won the Dutch second-division title in 2001. His next trophy was the Dutch second-division title again in 2012 when he returned to the club before calling time on his career. He had never won any individual award as a player.
