Federico Valverde of Real Madrid could face a 12-match ban for punching Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena over unborn child joke.
Valverde allegedly confronted Villareal’s player Alex Baena by their team bus and threw punches at him there.
If Federico Valverde is found guilty, the Real Madrid star could be banned for up to 12 matches – with four-match ban being the least sentence.
It cannot be determined if there will be a hand-out of ban as the said incident did not happen during the match.
24-Years-Old Valverde was reportedly upset by an alleged statement Alex Baena made to him during their encounter in January.
As at that time the Los Blancos player’s wife was experiencing complications with her pregnancy.
The Villareal star, Alex Baena, was accused of making sick comment in regards to Valverde’s unborn child, which he denied.
Alex Baena who claimed to have swollen cheek and bruising, took to his Instagram page to talk about the false claims.
He said: “Very happy with the impressive victory of the team in a stage like the Santiago Bernabeu but at the same time very sad for the aggression I suffered after the match and surprised by what is being said about me. It is totally untrue that I said that.”
Baena is set to press charges against Federico Valverde which Villareal confirmed in a statement saying; “Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was assaulted last night on his way to the team bus after the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.”
“Faced with this situation, the player has decided to file the corresponding complaint against the aggressor before the National Police.”
“Once again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player and will support him throughout this process.”
The Spanish FA’s investigation will most likely to take up to a month which means Valverde will feature in the Copa del Rey final.
Mina Bonino, Valverde’s Wife, released an emotional statement, which reads: “Do I have to explain why they told me that my pregnancy could not continue?”
“We were silent for almost two months waiting for the result to know whether or not we could continue, having already five months of pregnancy.”
“I have already gone through enough for them to come and question me about my son’s health.”
“Despite everything, from the bottom of my heart, I don’t wish anyone to go through a similar situation.”
Fortunately, Valverde and Mina’s child is reportedly healthy as Mina sharign made an Instagram post in March with the caption “six months into it”.
Federico Valverde and Mina Bonino met in 2019 but the couple kept their relationship a secret for a very long time.
The duo gave birth to a baby they named Benicio Valverde on 20th February 2020 and they have been together ever since then.
