The Euro 2024 has come and gone with top players showing the world what they got with their different national teams.
With the 2024 summer transfer window open, clubs are already jostling to secure the services of some top targets ahead of the new campaign. Apparently, the tournament, which churned out football matchups to the thrill of fans, was also a hunting ground for scouts to weigh their options, assess players and take decisions.
A statistics shared by Transfermarkt on key ball-playing skills and performances of players in the tournament has shown that the most expensive may not usually be the best on the field of action.
Below is a list of how players performed based on key statistics at Euro 2024:
Tackles completed
From the stats, Jude Bellingham with a market cap of €180m, recorded the most tackles in the tournament. Former Fulham and Portuguese midfielder, Palhinha, who is now a Bayern Munich star, is second on the list with 24 tackles and has a market value of €55m. Arsenal and England midfielder, Declan Rice, who is rated as the most expensive in the column with a market value of €150m, is third with 15 tackles.
Fourth on the stats is Tottemham Hotspur and Danish midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with a transfer value of €13m, won 15 tackles in the tournament. Georgian and Watford midfielder, Giorgi Chakvetadze, with the least market value (€2.5m) on the chart, won 13 tackles.
Players who completed most dribbles
On top of the chart of players who completed most dribbles is Manchester City winger Jeremy with a market value of €65m and 34 dribbles. Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, with a transfer value of €90m, recorded 32 dribbles, 2 less than Doku’s. Yamal is tied with Real Madrid new signing and prolific French forward Kylian Mbappe with a market value of €180m.
Another French footballer and PSG winger, Ousmane Dembele also recorded 32 dribbles but has a transfer value of €60m. Germany youngster, Jamal Musiala, boasts same stats but with a transfer value of €120m.
Most passes completed
Surprisingly, England defender John stones topped the chart of the best passers in the tournament. With a market value of €38m. Stone recorded 526 passes. Toni Kroos, who hung his boots after the tournament, is second with 495 passes and a market value of €10m. Declan Rice is also on the charts again with 490 passes.
Occupying the 4th and 5th positions are Spain’s Aymeric Laporte (€20m) with 452 passes and England’s Kyle Walker (€13m) with 448 passes.
Most Saves in the tournament
On the best goalkeeper category, Georgian goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili (€35m) topped the charts with 29 saves. The 23-year-old is distantly followed by Dutch goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen, with a market value of €18m and 18 saves.
England’s Jordan Pickford tallied 17 saves with a transfer value of €22m. Romanian goalkeeper, Florian Nita, made 16 saves with market value of €200,000 while France Mike Maignan (€38m) also recorded 16 saves.
Most attempts by players
Kylian Mbappe leads the chart on most attempts by players. The French forward tallied 24 attempts. He is closely followed by Manchester United legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Al-Nassr star, whose team, Portugal crashed out in the quarter-finals of the tournament, recorded 23 attempts with a marketing value of €15. Third on the chart is €70m-worth Arsenal forward, Kai Havertz, with a total of 19 attempts. Dutch attacker, Memphis Depay (€10m), and Lamine Yamal registered the same number of attempts – 18.
