One member of the backroom staff was seen falling after he was chased by the angry Espanyol fans. It was later confirmed that Barcelona players escaped without getting hurt.

Relegation haunted Espanyol played shocking football but couldn’t match the energy of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski who put two goals in for Barcelona.

Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde were also on the scoresheet against Espanyol.

Javi Puado and Joselu scored two goals to make the scoreline more respectable for Espanyol after Barcelona’s eased down their attack.

The result sent The Catalans 14 points clear of Real Madrid on the La Liga table.

They won the title with four more matches to play and just three losses in the league. It was Barcelona’s 27th League title.

After the win, Xavi said, “It’s a job well done. This started in July, and after months of work and sacrifice, we have achieved our aim.

“The fans and the club deserve it; it gives us stability and security that things are being done well.

“We have sealed La Liga with a fantastic performance. We were brilliant tonight.

“The team relaxed at the end, and Espanyol showed pride.”

Barcelona did a lot of rebuilding this season with the signings of Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde, Kessie, and many more.

Barcelona took the early lead on top of the table, and they never allowed Real Madrid to get close to them in terms of challenging for the title.

Xavi has pulled away from the pressure on the Barcelona side after their elimination from the Champions League and the Europa League.

The Spanish giant is also looking forward to buying more players next season in a bid to challenge for the title.
