Erling Haaland scored 4 goals as Manchester City thrashed Wolves 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, May 4.

Haaland extended his lead as the league’s top scorer to 25 goals with his first four-goal haul in a single match this season.

The Norwegian playmaker showed no mercy against Wolves, scoring a hat-trick in the first half which included two penalties.

He opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute and then doubled City’s lead in the 35th minute with a header from Rodri’s cross.

He converted another penalty just before halftime. Hwang Hee-chan scored for Wolves in the 53rd minute, but Haaland quickly responded to the goal a minute later.

Substitute Julian Alvarez added to City’s tally to wrap up the scoring.

Meanwhile, Haaland’s four goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers has cemented his position as the front-runner for the Castrol Golden Boots for the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Norwegian striker’s feat of scoring four goals before the 54th minute was only surpassed by former Manchester City player Gabriel Jesus, who achieved the same feat in a minute less against Watford in April 2022.

Having had 21 goals before the match, Haaland’s recent goals have extended his lead in the Premier League goalscoring chart for the 2023/24 season to five.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer were strong contenders for the title trailing Erling Haaland with 20 goals each.

As it stands, the Manchester City striker is now at the peak of the chart extending his lead to five goals.

This stunning performance marked Haaland’s first multi-goal match in the Premier League since February when he scored twice against Everton.

He has now scored his sixth Premier League hat-trick in just his second season in England in only 62 appearances, surpassing notable goalscoring legends like Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie, and Dimitar Berbatov.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s bid for the Premier League title took a hit after Manchester City’s 5-1 win over Wolves, bringing them closer to reclaiming the top spot.

With this victory, Manchester City are now just one point behind Arsenal in the league standings and have a game in hand, putting pressure on the current leaders.

With City in blistering form and closing in on reclaiming their top spot, Arsenal will need to step up their game if they have any hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy.

What’s next for Manchester City?

This weekend is set to be an exciting one as the Premier League campaign is wrapping up, with two top teams facing tough opponents.

Arsenal will have to bring more vigor as they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford, a match that is sure to be a thrilling showdown.

Meanwhile, M chester City will be looking to kick off their winning streak and top the league as they travel to face Fulham with kick-off set for 12:30 pm.
