Erling Haaland has reportedly snubbed Chelsea football club and named six clubs across Europe he could leave Borussia Dortmund for in the nearest future.
According to a report by a German publication Bild, the 20-year-old Norwegian striker dream of joining Manchester City, Liverpool, or Manchester United in the Premier League. If that doesn’t work, he prefers to move to Italian Serie A to join Juventus. And if that fails to work, he wishes to move to Spanish La Liga to join either FC Barcelona or Real Madrid.
The reason for Erling Haaland’s choice of clubs was based on the prestige of the clubs. He reportedly intends to avoid leaving an intermediate club (Borussia Dortmund) to join another intermediate club (Chelsea).
This report is seen as a big slap in the face of Chelsea who have reportedly shown interest in the prolific striker. Earlier reports claimed that the owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich has given Chelsea the go-ahead to sign the fast-rising superstar.
Though no official statement from Erling Haaland concerning the viral report claiming that he excluded Chelsea in the list of his desired clubs, yet, the report that he snubbed Chelsea on his six-club list didn’t go down well for most Chelsea’s fans.
His choice which placed Chelsea under the category of an intermediate club is seen as ironic since Manchester City made his list. In the last 20 years in the history of football, Chelsea have grown to be more successful than Manchester City in terms of trophies won outside domestic football.
To stress the worth of Chelsea in the world of football, the London club has won one UEFA Champions League and played in the final of the competition once in the last 10 years, a feat Manchester City have not recorded in the history of the club.
However, in terms of success in domestic football, Manchester City, like Juventus, have a huge chance of winning at least a domestic title even if they don’t go too far in the Champions League.
Even though Erling Haaland didn’t rate Chelsea as a club he would want to join at this stage of his football career, what might determine his next move in Europe might be the financial interest of Dortmund than Haaland’s reported rating.
According to a transfer market site, the 20-year-old Norway international currently worth €110 million in the transfer market, a price that might be hard for most clubs in Europe to pay.
Recently, the coach of Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who said he has been monitoring the progress of Erling Haaland, ruled on the possibility of splashing out a high amount of cash in the transfer market.
He argued that the coronavirus pandemic has affected the flow of revenue and Manchester United are not the only major club in Europe that are feeling the heat of the pandemic.
“There’s going to be fewer transfers happening in the world of football with all these changes”, Solskjaer said.
“The pandemic is definitely affecting everyone in football, the lack of finances, it’s affected, everyone.
“All clubs in the world are going through the same situation so it’s no different for other clubs than for us.”
Erling Haaland has remained one of the most sought-after strikers in the world since the end of the 2019-2020 season. Clubs have not been able to make an official move for him due to the high price tag Borussia Dortmund might place on him. Reports say the club might demand nothing less than €150 million from clubs interested in the services of Haaland.
So far this season, Dortmund have enjoyed 17 league goals from Haaland and 5 assists in just 18 Bundesliga games. He has scored a total of 27 goals and provided 8 assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.
