In the FA Cup quarterfinal on Saturday, Manchester City smashed Burnley 6-0 thanks to Haaland’s sixth hat-trick of the year.

The 22-year-old has now scored 42 goals for City this season in 37 games after scoring five goals in a 7-0 victory against RB Leipzig four days ago.

Haaland is just the sixth Premier League player to ever score more than 40 goals in a single club season across all competitions.

Andy Cole, who scored 41 goals in 45 games for Newcastle in the 1993–1994 season, was the first player in the English Premier League to surpass the 40-goal threshold.

The record for most club goals scored in a season by a Premier League player is now shared by Mo Salah of Liverpool and the late Ruud van Nistelrooy of Manchester United.

In the 2002–03 season, Van Nistelrooy set the record with 44 goals in 52 games. In the 2017–18 campaign, Salah tied that total with 52 goals.

Throughout his 49 games for Manchester United in 2007–2008, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 42 goals.

Harry Kane, who scored 41 goals in 48 games for Tottenham during the 2017–18 season, completes the list.

Erling Haaland

Erling Braut Haaland (Hland in Norwegian; born July 21, 2000) is a professional footballer from Norway who plays as a striker for Manchester City of the Premier League and the Norway national team.

He is regarded as one of the top players in the world and is well-known for his strength, pace, and ability to finish in the box.

Haaland played at the senior level for Bryne’s reserve and senior teams after progressing through the youth system.

After that, he relocated to Molde in 2017 and spent two seasons there, playing for their reserve team as well. Haaland won two league championships and one Austrian Cup before signing with Austrian Bundesliga team Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019.

He transferred to German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in December 2019, where he won the DFB-Pokal in 2020–21. He moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for a figure of €60 million (£51.2 million).

Haaland tied Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano on March 14 for the most goals scored in a single Champions League game with five goals against RB Leipzig.

In doing so, he also reached 39 goals in all competitions, breaking Tommy Johnson’s previous City record of 38 goals in the 1928–1929 season for most goals in a single season.

He was also one of just three players—along with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo—to net at least 10 goals throughout multiple Champions League campaigns.

Haaland scored his sixth hat-trick of the year during Manchester City’s FA Cup match against Burnley, passing the 40-goal milestone across all competitions.

Haaland is eight goals short of the single-season record presently held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer with 28 goals in 26 games.
