Despite an unimpressive and less clinical performance by the Red Devils, Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford.

A great header by England star Marcus Rashford was enough to secure all three points for Erik Ten Hag, as the former Ajax Manager looked set to return the team to a Champions League team.

The win at Old Trafford shoot the Red Devils to the fifth position on the Premier League table, with 23 points after 12 matches. So far this season, United have recorded 7 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses.

They are just a point behind Newcastle, who have 24 points but have played one game more than the Red Devils.

Newcastle is another surprising resurgent team this season, and there are projections that the Magpies may likely challenge for the top and gatecrash the Champions League.

However, Manchester United’s resurgence under Erik Ten Hag has also caught the fancy of pundits and Manchester United fans.

After a disappointing and brutal 6-3 defeat in the 188th Manchester derby at the Etihad, Erik Ten Hag is unbeaten.

The Red Devils defeated Tottenham and picked up points against Newcastle and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before beating David Moyes’ West Ham United.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola stated that it is evident that Manchester United is back after the game against Chelsea.

Speaking in the pre-match conference before the Leicester City match, the Spain-born tactician said ‘he felt Manchester United is coming back.’

‘I have the feeling United are coming back, finally United is coming back… I said I like what I see of United right now. There will be a lot of teams like United fighting [for the top four]”

Guardiola maintained that a peep on Manchester United’s first-half performance against the Blues in Stamford Bridge is clear evidence that Erik Ten Hag is doing a great job at Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Hag reacts to Guardiola’s assessment

Erik Ten Hag has played down the thumbs-up by the Manchester City boss despite following up Guardiola’s assessment with a win over West Ham United.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Erik Ten Hag said Pep Guardiola is ‘a little bit too quick’ with his assessment of the team.

The former Ajax manager said that the team still has a long way to go as they needed to improve in the attack and ability to convert clear chances.

“If we keep going we’re in the right direction but to track them we have a long way to go. We still have to improve in creating and converting created chances”, the coach said.

Recent performances by the Red Devils have shown a different side to Manchester United, that lost their opening Premier League games against Brighton and Brentford.

Erik Ten Hag is obviously set to change the misfortunes of Manchester United, but the job is far from being accomplished.

Erik Ten Hag has arrested Man United’s defense and midfield lapses, but the Red Devils need more impetus in the attack.

The Old Trafford club will take on Real Sociedad in the Europa League in their Thursday fixture and will aim to claim the top spot in the group from the La Liga club in Spain.
