New Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag is planning a shock move for Juventus star, Adrien Rabiot as the Red Devils’ midfield crisis deepens.
After what appeared to be a brilliant preseason outing with Manchester United, coach Erik Ten Hag was welcomed to the Premier League with a dramatic 2-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton broke the record by getting all three points against the Red Devils in a Premier League opener at Old Trafford. Two quick first-half goals by the German international were enough to condemn the Red Devils to their opening defeat.
A poor performance by Fred and McTominay left the Man United’s defense vulnerable as the Seagulls surprisingly took charge of the game in front of Man United home fans. The match, which turned out to be an eye-opener for Ten Hag, exposed the vulnerability of the United midfield. Meanwhile, Ten Hag has left no room for complacency, as he has immediately spearheaded the attempt to sign Adrien Rabiot from Juventus.
According to David Ornstein, the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign Adrien Rabiot. They will have to decide if they will proceed with the deal or halt it, pending further developments on the Frenkie de Jong situation.
Erik Ten Hag has made Man United midfield a top priority to restructure the team and launch his Ajax-style football pattern. Since arriving at Old Trafford, he has pushed for a deal with his former player, Frenkie De Jong.
The Red Devils have reportedly agreed on a deal with Barcelona for the player but have encountered obstructions on personal terms with De Jong. De Jong has ruled out a possible switch to Old Trafford or Premier League because he wants to stay at Barcelona. Hence, the Red Devils are exploring alternatives to fix Manchester United’s midfield problems.
Adrien Rabiot is now on the radar of the Old Trafford club. The 27-year-old France international plays as a central midfielder for Juventus. Rabiot still has a year remaining in his Juventus contract and may leave as a free agent next year.
Rabiot has run into a series of clashes with Juventus after the arrival of former Man United playmaker Paul Pogba on a free transfer. Rabiot missed out on Juventus preseason and was compelled to train with the Under-23 team.
The France international can also sign a pre-contract agreement to leave the club as a free agent next year. The Old Ladies of Turin will want to avert such a loss and would love to sell out the player as relations between him and the club continue to deteriorate.
The Red Devils are targeting the midfielder but will have to battle interest from other clubs such as PSG and Lyon, who are also in the race to sign the player.
