Tottenham Hotspur defender, Eric Dier has insisted that he and his teammates have accepted the tough training of their new coach Antonio Conte.

The 27-year-old English center back stressed that the Italian tactician does not have a demanding personality, adding that the coach enjoys jokes like everyone else.

Recall that Antonio Conte became the coach of Tottenham Hotspur after the club sacked coach Nuno Espirito Santo who had a disappointing four months spell at the club.

Over the years, Conte is seen as a no-nonsense tactician who demands optimal performance from his players in every game.

This is believed to be the secret behind his successes at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan. He does not only demands that his players should train rigorously, he reportedly monitors what they eat, when they eat and how they eat.

Since he arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in November, the Italian coach has reportedly banned the players from eating some set of food to keep them in shape and help them to perform optimally whenever they are called upon to play.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Eric Dier described his new coach as a super competitive coach who has been guiding them through some tough training sessions.

Though he admitted how passionate Conte is when it comes to football, Eric Dier stressed that the Italian coach has a very likable personality.

“There have been tough training sessions, which is a good thing,” Dier said. The boys have really enjoyed the time we’ve had and the tough sessions.

“A lot of us were here under Pochettino so we were prepared in some way. It’s been really enjoyable to work in that way and to really push ourselves.

“We need to improve quickly, so it’s been really good so far.

“There’s a bit of an overreaction. The manager has an incredible passion and intensity towards football, but off the pitch, he’s very personal.

“There’s quite a relaxed environment, a lot of fun – he and his staff enjoy a joke.

“They did the singing initiation, which was really good. It was all Italian classics, but they sang with the same passion they have for football.

“So it’s not all serious, but when it’s the time to work, it’s the time to work.”

Antonio Conte took over from coach Nuno when the club was struggling to win games, especially in the Premier League.

However, his arrival has improved things at the club but has not fully returned the consistency the club needs to be a Premier League title contender.

Ahead of their league game against Norwich City which is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 later today, December 5, 2021, Eric Dier noted that “Consistency is something”, he and his team members need to work on.

“At times we can be really good, but we’re lacking that consistency to do it over and over again, game after game”, he added.

“Mentally we need to be better. We need to be more consistent in everything we do. In every way, we need to improve and I think there’s a huge space for us to improve.

“That’s something that we’re really focused on and it’s something the manager has spoken to us about. Hopefully, we can do that over Christmas when there are so many games.

If Tottenham Hotspur beat Norwich City later today, they could move from the 6th spot to the 5th spot with 25 points in 14 games, two points away from 4th placed West Ham United.
