English Premier League: Relegation Battle Goes Down To The Wire

The battle for survival in the English Premier League has gone down to the wire and there are 3 teams hoping that they can do enough to remain in the top-flight.

Everton, Leicester and Leeds United are still in danger of relegation from the Premier League but no side certainly wants to drop from the money spinning division.

However, either fate or destiny two sides most certainly accompany Southampton back to the Championship.

For the three teams who have the bug of relegation hanging over their head, these are their chances of possibly remaining or dropping to the English Championship.

Based on stats from British sports analytics company, Opta, Everton are the side who appear to be the safest.

Everton – 19%

They have a 19% chance of relegating to the Championship and the Toffees play Bournemouth at the Goodison park on the final day of the season.

Everton sit 17th on the Premier League table with 33 points from 34 games but their top-flight status isn’t completely assured yet.

The team tutored by Sean Dyche need a win on the final match day to confirm their position in the English Premier League.

A goaless draw might prove costly depending on if Leicester City or Leeds United get a win by a very outrageous margin in their own make or mar encounters.

The Merseysiders have only previously been relegated on two occasions since the club’s inception.

Everton’s only relegations came in 1929/30 and 1950/51.

Leicester City – 84%

It looks almost certain that the Foxes would return to the Championship although there is still a glimmer of hope regarding their stay in the top-flight.

Leicester City sit 18th with 31 points from 34 games and they have a better goal difference of – 18 than Everton who have a – 24.

But they must get a win against West Ham United whilst hoping that Everton shares the spoils or get defeated by Bournemouth.

Dean Smith must make sure his boys put in their all, although it looks like an herculean task against the hammers.

If they can’t find a way to do the big task and their relegation is confirmed on Sunday, they would return to the Championship after almost 10 years in the English Premier League.

Leeds United – 97%

Leeds United would need a miracle to stay up in the top-flight

According to stats provided by Opta, the Whites relegation is almost signed, sealed but not yet delivered.

Sam Alladyce’s side would be needing a miracle on the final day of the season to remain in the English Premier League.

The team placed 19th on the log face Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.

Leeds United have amassed 31 points in similar fashion as Leicester City but they have a – 27 goal difference.

They must defeat Tottenham Hotspur by a ridiculous margin and hope that Leicester City and Everton Lose.

Almost every indicator is pointing towards their return to the Championship but like the popular quote goes “Impossible is Nothing”.

Anyway, if they don’t surmount what is looking unsurmountable, they would be returning to the English Championship after three seasons in the top-flight.
