This howler came a week after the Argentine won the Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper of the year at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
In the second half of the match between Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest on November 5, 2023, Forest’s Orel Mangala hit the ball from outside the box.
Upon citing that the ball was already going into his own net, he quickly reacted, but it was too late with the goal line technology notifying the referee that the ball had already gone beyond the line.
Fans had been reacting to the goalkeeper, with many claiming he should have done better to stop the ball from going into the net.
