Donny van de Beek will return to Manchester United in the summer of 2024, as Eintracht Frankfurt aren’t ready to activate his buyout clause.

Van de Beek’s move to Frankfurt on loan in January 2024 was expected to resurrect the Dutchman’s career back to life.

Donny van de Beek has since his move from Ajax to Manchester United in 2020, experienced a sharp decline in his career.

He struggled to get consistent playing time at Old Trafford and many were hoping that the move to Eintracht Frankfurt would turn out well.

However, Eintracht Frankfurt are reluctant to sanction the £8.5 million clause to sign the player permanently following several poor displays since he joined the club.

They are unlikely to keep him beyond his loan spell and that will see him return to Manchester United in the summer of 2024.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt understood that Donny van de Beek wasn’t going to arrive in top shape, but they were hoping for him to pick up and rediscover his form.

Has Donny van de Beek lived up to expectations at Eintracht Frankfurt?

Unfortunately, Van de Beek has failed to live up to expectations, having been handed many opportunities by Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller.

The midfielder is no longer seen as a backup option at the club and he has also been left out of the team on four different occasions.

The Dutchman’s underwhelming showing has led to disappointment from the club’s administrators on his display and that has resulted in them giving second thoughts on their initial long-term plans for him.

Donny van de Beek’s below-par display cast a sudden darkness on Manchester United’s transfer business, as it puts them on a tightrope.

It will be interesting to see where the future of the midfielder is headed and how the Red Devils intend to utilize him in the coming season or if possible ship him off to other clubs interested in his services.

Van de Beek as aforementioned joined Manchester United on September 2, 2020, for a fee of €39 million.

The 26-year-old has made 62 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in all competitions.

So far in his loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, Donny van de Beek has made 6 appearances for the German club, scoring no goal and providing no assist.

Van de Beek started quite brightly at Ajax Amsterdam and he was one of the players in the then star-studded Erik Ten Hag squad that made it to the semis of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.

The former Everton man made 175 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring 41 goals and providing 34 assists in all competitions.

Unfortunately, his career has gone on a downward spiral and he will need to make significant improvement to get back into reckoning, before his career plunges further into obscurity.
