Retired Ajax and Netherland goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar has been evacuated out of Intensive care, after going through bleeding around his brain.
Van Der Sar was moved into a hospital during holiday in Croatia, prior to when he was transferred to a Dutch health care facility.
The 52-year-old shared a statement on social media expressing his joy and also signifying his desire to return to his home in the coming week.
He wrote: “I’m happy to share that I’m no longer in the intensive care unit.
“However, I’m still in the hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery.”

Edwin Van Der Sar also expressed his gratitude to everyone for their messages of encouragement.
He wrote: “We want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages.”
This information from Edwin Van Der is coming days after Ajax shared an update on the health condition of the star.
They revealed that he had been repatriated from Croatia on Friday, July 14, 2023 and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in his country.
Ajax stated: “Edwin has been repatriated from Croatia on Friday evening and is currently in the intensive care unit of a Dutch hospital.”
In usual manner, the family also sent out their profound gratitude, but this time it was to the University Hospital of Split due to their great care during the previous week.
They said: “The Van der Sar family would like to express their deep gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for their great care during the last week”.
The 52-year-old resigned from his recent role as Ajax Chief Executive Officer in May, after the side couldn’t secure a Champions League spot, following a 3rd place league finish.
It signaled the first time Ajax wouldn’t be participating in the Champions League since 2009.
Van Der Sar hung up his boots in 2011, after departing Manchester United and he afterwards joined the board of Ajax in 2012.
In 2016, he became the Dutch side Chief Executive Officer and he spent nearly a decade in that role.

He won the Dutch Football goalkeeper of the Year on three occasions; 1994, 1995 and 1996.
Van Der Sar was also named the Best European Goalkeeper on two occasions; 1995 and 2009.
He played for several notable teams in Europe namely; Ajax, Manchester United, Fulham and Juventus.
