The manager of Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that the club is working so hard to renew the contract of the club’s striker Edinson Cavani.

Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain on October 5, 2020. Since the 34-year-old Uruguayan striker joined the Red Devils, he has shown a series of brilliance but the club’s coach has not deemed him fit enough to be a regular starter at the club.

So far this season, Cavani has scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists in 20 Premier League games. He has scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 29 games in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, the Uruguayan striker was in action against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He scored two goals but one was not counted.

Before now, there has been speculation that Edison Cavani was not happy at Manchester United because he has not been having regular game time. He has been linked to a couple of clubs ahead of the expiration of his contract with Manchester United.

Recently, former Manchester United center-back, Marcos Rojo claimed that Edinson Cavani could join him at Boca Junior because the Uruguayan footballer is interested in playing for the Argentine club.

Also, Cavani’s father Luis told the media in March that his son could leave Manchester United this summer but the footballer involve has not made any official statement on his future yet.

After Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, the coach of United stressed that the club has started looking at the possibility of keeping the striker at the club beyond this summer.

“We have had upfront and honest meetings. There’s no secret, we want to keep him”, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that this has been a difficult year for everyone, with the pandemic, it’s not been possible to have friends over, family over, to travel, he’s not been able to experience the fantastic culture of Manchester and England.

“He’s contemplating and thinking hard and long about what he wants to do, and I understand. He knows what I want, him at Old Trafford at the Stretford End scoring a diving header, there’s not a better feeling. So let’s wait and see.

“He knows my feelings, I know his feelings. He has not made up his mind yet and I understand that it has been a difficult year for everyone but for a new lad who does not speak English, not to feel the English culture to go and see people, have friends around, it’s in the back of your head if this is what you want. You cannot have your family over so fingers crossed, if he decides it’s just this season, we have been very fortunate to have him here.”
