Real Madrid will have to do without their star attacking midfielder during the team’s biggest week of the season. During Saturday’s shocking 1-0 defeat to Levante, Eden Hazard came off the pitch with an injury. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined during Real’s Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday and most likely the remaining of the season.

This comes as a major blow to Real Madrid as one of their key stars will miss not only the Champions League but their El Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday. The club has now announced, the 29-year-old has suffered an injury in his right distal fibula. The Belgian national team manager Roberto Martinez also gave his analysis and said he expects Hazard to be sidelined until May.

Speaking Martinez said, ”We are very sad because this injury will leave him out of action for at least three months. A footballer like Eden should always be on the pitch. We have an excellent communication with Real Madrid’s medical staff and we are anxious about Eden.”

Hazard returned to action after a three-month spell on the sidelines from an ankle fracture. Upon returning to action to their shocking defeat in the hands of Levante, Hazard came off in the 67th minute with what appears to be a fracture in his right distal fibula. The defeat saw Barcelona surpass their rivals to top the La Liga league.

Real Madrid released a statement on Sunday confirming Hazard’s injury saying:

”Following the tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to his right distal fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed. Hazard has started nine matches in the league this season and has one goal, failing to make the expected impact after arriving from Chelsea in the summer.”

It is not clear if Hazard will be fit and back in action for Euro2020 this summer. The Belgian international is said to have high hopes of returning just in time.
