Dominic Calver-Lewin handed Everton their first win of the season, as they battled for a 1-0 victory away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jose Mourinho’s side came into the game looking for a win after bringing in former Southampton midfielder Hojberg and Wolves full-back Matt Doherty, meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton had a new look after signing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, ex-Napoli midfielder Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford.

Everton started the game on the front foot, as they were the more composed side. New man James Rodriguez, showed his class in midfield as he kept stringing one accurate pass after another.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan provided the required defensive cover as Jose Mourinho’s side failed to break the Everton side down.

Richarlison had a chance to open the scoring for the Merseyside club after he was one-on-one with Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but he failed to keep his shot down after rounding the French shot-stopper

Spurs had a couple of decent scoring chances, however, they failed to take them. Heung Min-Son released Englishman Dele Ali late in the first half, but Jordan Pickford was up to the task as he stood his ground to block off the shot.

Harry Kane also chipped a through-pass over the entire Everton defense for new man Matt Doherty to fire home, however, Jordan Pickford once again denied Jose Mourinho’s men.

Finally, the breakthrough strike came in the 55th-minute when full-back Lucas Digne whipped-in a well-struck free-kick from the left flank to find the head of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The 23-year-old rose the highest to guide his header into the back of the net.

After the goal, Tottenham failed to threaten Carlo Ancelotti’s side and the Blues would go on to hold on to their 1-0 lead as they secured their first win over a top-six side since December 2013, where they defeated Manchester United.
