Manchester City shrugged off the scare of going behind early against Brentford to continue their dominance in English football thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland.

The Cityzens, who are aware of the 115 charges hanging over their shoulders, showed class through “world-class” Erling Haaland.

Yoane Wissa poked the Bees ahead barely 25 seconds in the game with a sublime header, taking advantage of Manchester City’s disarray in defense.

The away side controlled the early exchanges at the Etihad, with Pep Guardiola’s side pretty much being on the back foot.

However, they got back their mojo as the game wore on, and they responded with two goals from Haaland in the 19th and 32nd minutes.

Erling Haaland’s first goal came following a huge deflection off defender Ethan Pinnock, while the second was engineered by goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.

Ederson launched the ball into the half of Brentford, with Haaland doing well to surmount the pressure of Pinnock before slotting the ball home expertly with a brilliant chip across goalkeeper Flekken after running through on goal.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland Continues To Delineate His Lethal Finishing Abilities In The Premier League

The goal from Erling Haaland made him become the first player in Premier League history to score nine goals in the opening four games of a single season, beating the record of Wayne Rooney, who scored 8 goals in that run of games during the 2011/12 campaign.

Haaland has also scored more goals than any Premier League team in the 2024/25 season except, of course, Manchester City.

Additionally, Erling Haaland’s brace has resulted in him surpassing Eric Cantona in Premier League goals, with the former now having 72 goals, while the latter netted 70 goals all through his time in the division.

Moreover, Haaland achieved the feat in 86 fewer matches, as he has made 70 appearances for Manchester City, while Cantona played 156 times in the league.

Ultimately, one record that he failed to break but can still break in the coming matches is securing hat-tricks in 3 consecutive matches.

Anyway, Erling Haaland was voted the Premier League Player of the Month for August 2024 and he looks to not be stopping in his strive for perfection.

If the 24-year-old keeps up this blistering pace, he could also be claiming the award for September 2024.

Manchester City

Erling Haaland’s brace helped the Cityzens claim their 4th win of the season and they stay at the summit of the log, 3 points clear of Liverpool, who were surprisingly beaten at Anfield by Nottingham Forest.

It is still early days in this campaign, but it appears Manchester City is already running away with the Premier League title, as Arsenal also has a tough test to come against Tottenham Hotspur on September 15, 2024.

Pep Guardiola’s side return to action on September 22, 2024, with a game against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Etihad side are hunting for a record-setting 5th consecutive league title and so far it looks like a stroll in the park towards the league crown.

Important players at the club have all shown their brilliance this season and it is safe to say they have every ingredient needed for another title push.

Brentford

They troubled Manchester City in the opening stages of the game, having scored early, but it was always going to be a herculean task for Thomas Frank’s side to get anything out of the game.

The result puts them in 7th position with 6 points having picked up 2 wins from their first 4 league games.

The Bees return to action on September 17, 2024, with an EFL Cup clash against Leyton Orient at the Gtech Community Stadium before embarking on an away trip to North London to play Tottenham Hotspur on September 21, 2024.
