Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has won the Premier League’s Golden Glove Award following an impressive campaign with the Gunners.

The Brentford loanee was confirmed winner of the coveted goalkeeper’s award after his closest rival Jordan Pickford of Everton failed to keep a clean sheet in Everton’s Premier League draw with Luton Town on Friday, April 4.

The Toffees’ draw against Luton Town means Jordan Pickford could only go as far as matching David Raya’s tally of 14 assists in the club’s next two games.

Having hit the mark first, the Arsenal goalkeeper has been duly confirmed as the winner of the award. Meanwhile, he has three games left to extend his tally.

David Raya’s Golden Glove Award is a big milestone in the Spaniard’s career as much as a vindication of Mikel Arteta’s confidence in the player.

After signing the 28-year-old on loan from Brentford, Mikel Arteta dropped England international Aaron Ramsdale to the bench with Raya emerging as the Spaniard’s first-choice goalkeeper.

It was a bold but controversial move with Arsenal fans lashing out at the Spanish tactician in the wake of David Raya’s errors.

Arteta continually defended David Raya and defied the odds to continue with the Spaniard as Arsenal’s no.1.

David Raya would play in a big role as Arsenal continue their push for the Premier League title. He has now become the second Arsenal goalkeeper to win the Premier League Golden Glove Award after Petr Cech in 2016, who recorded 16 assists for the Gunners.

It is pertinent to note while Aaron Ramsdale has fallen off the pecking order for the Gunners, the Three Lions goalkeeper kept 14 clean sheets for Arsenal last season in all 38 Premier League appearances.

David Raya is more likely to cross the benchmark in Arsenal’s remaining three games before the end of the season.
