David Luiz of Arsenal confirms a successful surgery

Arsenal defender, David Luiz has confirmed that the knee surgery he underwent during the weekend was successful, hours after the completion of the medical procedure.

The 33-year-old Brazilian center-back took to Instagram on Sunday evening to post a picture of himself lying on a hospital bed to show that he was recovering from the aftermath of the surgery.

In the caption of the post, the former Chelsea center-back thanked the medical staff that made the surgery a success and urged his teammates at Arsenal to keep fighting for a better season.

“The procedure has been a success, and I will go home soon!! Just want to thank u all for the support messages and for the medical staff that did a great job!!! I WILL BE BACK STRONGER 💪🏻 !!! Let’s keep fighting together, never give up”, he wrote on Instagram.

David Luiz was not featured in Arsenal’s 0-3 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Saturday. After the game, Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta confirmed that the defender had a knee injury which would be operated upon.

He also confirmed that the injury would keep him off football for a couple of weeks which means that the Brazilian veteran defender will miss Arsenal’s first leg of the Europa League quarter-final game against Slavia Prague on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Besides the Instagram post of David Luiz in which he announced that the surgery was a success, Arsenal also issued a statement after the surgery to confirm that the defender underwent a “small procedure” which was a success.

Though the statement did not specifically state when the Brazilian defender would return to full fitness, Arsenal revealed that the defender would start his recovery process at the club’s training ground in days.

The statement read: “The procedure has been a success and David is now back at home rehabilitating.

“He will be able to return to daily support and recovery with our medical team at the training center in the coming days.

“David is expected to be back to full fitness and available for selection in the upcoming weeks.”

David Luiz who joined Arsenal from Chelsea on August 8, 2019, will be out of contract at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Despite having less than three months left on his contract with Arsenal, the club has not been saying much about the future of the 33-year-old defender.

So far this season, Luiz has played 19 Premier League games in which he scored a goal. He has played 29 times in all competitions for Arsenal this season and has scored two goals in total.
