David De Gea Surpassed Peter Schmeichel’s Record For Most Clean Sheet Kept As Manchester United Goalkeeper

David De Gea, Manchester United goalkeeper has surpassed former Red Devils goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel to achieve more clean sheets than any other United short stopper in the history of the club.

The 32-year-old Spanish International De Gea attained his 181st clean sheet for Man United having made 523 appearances since joining Man United from Atletico Madrid in June 2011, compared to Schmeichel, the Denmark International who has 180 clean sheets during his time at Old Trafford.

Against Leicester City, the Spaniard recently put up an outstanding goalkeeping performance. He produced two incredible saves, and United went on to win 3-0 with ease.

The 32-year-old did this to tie Schmeichel’s club record for clean sheets (180) and needed just one more game to surpass the illustrious Dane.

The legendary Peter Schmeichel kept 180 clean sheets in 386 appearances during his tenure at Manchester United while playing for the club between 1991 to 1999.

The Carabao Cup final was the perfect moment, according to De Gea to break Schmeichel’s record. The 15 million pounds rated goalkeeper was alert and made two crucial stops against Newcastle United.

The Spaniard now holds the record for the most clean sheets for Man United, and he will be looking to keep up the excellent work as the team attempts to win more titles this season.

De Gea, who has played in the club’s 10th-most games, has been a regular in Erik ten Hag’s Premier League team and was faultless on Sunday.

Man United’s starting goalkeeper has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and many other individual honors in addition to his second League Cup victory.

With a key FA Cup fifth round match against West Ham United coming up on Wednesday, March 1st, 2023, the players must instantly refocus after the Carabao Cup victory ended a six-year Man United trophy drought.

A few days later, they host Real Betis at Old Trafford in the opening leg of their Europa League round of 16 matches before playing their bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield.

In addition, the 12-month option for United to extend De Gea’s contract past this summer has not yet been used, but negotiations for a new long-term deal with a fair wage cut are currently underway.
