Former Manchester United has made an ironic assertion, stating that Bruno Fernandes shouldn’t be the captain of the Red Devils, after his late winner against Fulham on November 4, 2023.
Fernandes has received a raft of critiscisms in recent weeks, with many questioning the choice of Erik Ten Hag, in appointing the Portuguese as captain.

Following his stunner against Marco Silva’s side, Fernandes took to Instagram to celebrate the victory, with David De Gea commenting:
“You are not the right captain” along with a zipped mouth “🤐” emoji.
David De Gea has also been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, as reports indicate that he could come in to deputize in place of Andre Onana, who is set for national team engagements with Cameroon in January 2024.
De Gea spent 11 years at Manchester United, having joined the club from Atletico Madrid on July 1, 2011, for a fee of €25 million.
He left the club at the end of the 2022/23 season, as Erik Ten Hag opted for a goalkeeper who was with the ball at his feet.
David De Gea’s assertion was apparently directed towards Roy Keane’s comments after Manchester United’s 0-3 loss to Manchester City on October 29, 2023.
Keane went at Bruno Fernandes over his petulant display, stating that the Portuguese should lose the captaincy at the Old Trafford club.

Roy Keane noted the qualities of Fernandes, but he expressed that Fernandes is not “captain material”.
He said: “The first thing I would do is take the captaincy off him. I know it’s a big decision but Fernandes is not captain material.
“He’s a talented player, but what I saw today, he’s whining, he’s moaning, he’s throwing his arms up in the air constantly.”
The Manchester United legend added that the former Udinese man is the “opposite to what you want in a captain.”
Bruno Fernandes was made captain of Manchester United in the summer of 2023, after the armband was stripped from Harry Maguire.
Fernandes is a darling of many fans of the Red Devils, and a massive section are in support of him being the captain of the club.
He has made 199 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 66 goals and providing 57 assists across all competitions.
