Manchester United are set for their preseason campaign with David De Gea left out of the squad after his contract renewal deadlock.

While the out-of-favor shotstopper have largely remained silent on the contract renewal impasse, he has raised eyebrows with a series of cryptic tweets believed to be related to the ill-fated contract renewal saga.

De Gea signed a new six-year contract with Manchester United in 2017 with an offer that made him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world with a weekly wage of £375,000.

He was the highest-earning Manchester United player and justly so for his legendary status and standout performance for the club since joining in 2011 from Atletico Madrid.

We understand David De Gea’s faceoff with Manchester United have been on new wage terms proposed by the club which was a significant departure from his £375,000 weekly wage.

De Gea dropped a yawning emoji, a cryptic post which apparently underscored his discouragement with the tardy renewal process, as his Manchester United contract expired on June 30.

His yawning emoji emerged at the back of reports he had agreed to the new contract proposal by Manchester United before his contract expired.

However, Manchester United reportedly backed off and refused to sign off the deal. They withdrew the offer and then brought a new offer with further cuts to the wage offer.

Sources close to the club revealed David De Gea was offered a new contract with £200,000 weekly wage – a significant reduction from his £375,000 weekly wage.

After a dragging round of talks and negotiations, the Spaniard agreed to the new deal only for the club to further slash the £200,000 weekly wage in another new offer.

Reacting to the back-and-forth of the renewal process, the Spaniard spoke through the cryptic yawning tweet.

With Manchester United set for a preseason and players returning from summer break, David De Gea has dropped another cryptic tweet linked to the abrupt end of his Old Trafford career.

This time, he posted a juggling emoji on social media further adding intrigues to his inglorious exit from the club.

De Gea’s juggling emoji has been interpreted to mean either two things – his possible return to Manchester United in the preseason or a self-teaser of himself as the best goalkeeper proud to leave the club as a legend.

While De Gea have left many to scratch their heads on the cryptic tweet, we understand there are two options for De Gea as things stand.

Manchester United have confirmed the club is still open to his contract renewal after he ran out of contract. Hence, De Gea can possibly seal a return to the squad.

Also, Al Nassr are currently on the trail of De Gea offering a competitive £250,000 weekly wage.

With Manchester United players back to preseason and David De Gea out of the squad, it is believed the Spaniard may not renew the deal and will prefer an exit.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as his replacement further putting his return in jeopardy.
