David de Gea has broken silence on rumors linking him to an imminent return to Manchester United.

David de Gea was freezed out of Manchester United squad by Erik ten Hag in the summer with reports the Dutch is not a fan of his style of play as a goalkeeper and needs a more proactive goalkeeper with a flair with ball and actively involved in the game.

Andre Onana provided ten Hag with the answer and a £48m deal with Inter Milan was enough to bring the Cameroonian to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, David de Gea’s legendary career at Manchester United had to summarily come to an end as ten Hag laid the pecks for his goalkeeping option.

The Dutch did actually wanted to retain David de Gea but not as a first-choice goalie hence he cut down the wage in his new contract offer.

de Gea turned down the offer and that was the end of a heroic chapter at Old Trafford with 545 caps to his belt.

Three months after de Gea’s inglorious Man United exit, his successor Andre Onana has struggled since replacing the Spaniard.

Onana has conceded 20 goals in 13 matches with only four clean sheets – a performance that has rile up nostalgia among some Man United fans who are now longing to have David de Gea back.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported Manchester United were making moves to bring back David de Gea on a short-term deal. However, De Gea’s imminent return is not linked to Andre Onana’s subpar service.

As per the report, Manchester United want De Gea to stand in for Andre Onana who will likely be leaving for 2023 AFCON in January to cushion the effect of the latters prolonged absence.

Amidst the rumour of having David de Gea back at Old Trafford, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper was seen in a meetup with new Man United captain and former teammate Bruno Fernandes further fueling speculations of his imminent return.

Now, De Gea has finally broken his silence with his usual cryptic social media post amid return links to Old Trafford.

He took to X (formerly, Twitter) to drop a thinking emoji which is obviously a reaction to the rumors of his return to Manchester United.

United fans were quick to react to the post with some fans asking him to come back while others said he should not come back after his inglorious exit underserving of a legendary player.

Should De Gea accept a deal to rejoin Manchester United, it will be the his second spell with the club after his 12 years legendary stint.

He was the last player remaining in Man United squad since Sir Alex Ferguson era and was the last Premier League winning player in the squad.
