Cristiano Ronaldo was able to redeem himself in the FIFA World Cup qualification round by scoring one of the goals in Portugal’s 3-1 victory over Luxembourg on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

The match was Ronaldo’s first appearance after the qualification game between Portugal and Serbia where he had the opportunity to score the last-minute goal which was disallowed. Recall that he was so frustrated that he had to threw his captain armband on the pitch and stormed out of the pitch seconds before the referee blew the final whistle.

His action was adjudged as an embarrassment to Portugal by most of his critics but the country’s head coach Fernando Santos saw nothing bad in it. The coach said ahead of the game against Luxembourg that Ronaldo would remain the captain of Portugal forever.

As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped on the pitch on Tuesday as the captain of Portugal in a match which was very difficult for the country in the most minutes of the first half.

It took the country until the additional minutes of the first half before they could break the deadlock through the boots of Liverpool star, Diogo Jota which means that the forward has scored three goals in two games for Portugal.

In the second half of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo had the opportunity to score his first goal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification round. The goal increased the number of goals he has scored for Portugal to 103 goals in 173 appearances.

With the 3-1 win over Luxembourg, Portugal has recorded 7 points in 3 games. They are currently topping the Group A table of the European FIFA World Cup qualification round ahead of first placed Serbia due to superior goals difference.
