Nigerians were astonished as they didn’t expect their football favs to be lovers of Afro beats which originates from Nigeria.

The song these football stars were enjoying was a song by Nigerian act Rema which is titled “Calm Down.”

This particular song by Rema has enjoyed global recognition since it was played at halftime in the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cristiano Ronaldo shared a video on Instagram with his children dancing to the song as it played in the background.

From the video posted by Ronaldo which is seen below, you could see how funny the kids were trying to vibe to the song in an “African” manner.

Also, PSG Star, Neymar, posted a screenshot on Instagram showing he was having a good time with Rema’s song.

In the screenshot posted by Neymar, it captured a line in the song that says “Girld this your body dey put me for lockdown.”

Who Is Rema?

Divine Ikubor, better known by her stage name Rema, was born in Nigeria on May 1, 2000.

After releasing the song “Dumebi,” he became famous. He entered into a recording contract with Mavin Records’ subsidiary Jonzing World in 2019.

In Benin City, Divine Ikubor was born into a Christian household. While he was in high school, he began to sing and rap.

He went to Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State for both his primary and secondary studies.

With the passing of his father and older brother, Rema is left to care for his mother.

With Alpha P, he began his musical career in churches. In 2018. Rema shared a popular freestyle on Instagram to the song “Gucci Gang” by D’Prince.

D’Prince saw the message and flew him to Lagos to offer the young musician a record deal.

In 2019, Rema agreed to a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a division of Mavin Records owned by music executive Don Jazzy.

In 2019, he followed up with the self-titled debut EP “Rema,” which reached the top spot on Apple Music Nigeria.

Five months after its official release, his single “Calm Down,” which features a sample from the song “So Fine” by fellow Nigerian musician Crayon, started to chart.
