Cristiano Ronaldo ended his collaboration with his historic agent and advisor Jorge Mendes at the end of last year, before his shocking move to Saudi club Al-Nassr after Manchester United terminated his contract.
Both Ronaldo and his previous agent, Mendes had enjoyed a flourishing relationship throughout the former United forward’s career with moves to Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus having all been successfully brokered.
The five-time Ballon d’Or holder Ronaldo had a long-running relationship with his fellow countryman and super agent Jorge Mendes ahead of his shift from European football to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr with further details on their fall out now ensuing.
According to anonymous sources, the 38-year-old Portuguese playmaker and his agent cum adviser’s partnership was understandably crushed following the death of Ronaldo’s son, Angel, at birth on April 16th, 2022.
The source said: “From there, something broke, which explains the partition of both Ronaldo and Mendes. He[Ronaldo] became unfiltered. When the head coach pisses him off, he tells him to piss off. Same thing with Mendes.”
The 38-year-old Portuguese game maestro was reportedly castigated by Manchester United’s alleged lack of support for him and his family during the unfortunate incident.
And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner asked his long-time agent and advisor to find a way to move him out of Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Al-Nassr had been showing interest in the Portuguese captain in the summer of 2022 already but neither Ronaldo nor Mendes took their offer seriously.
The offer was rejected back then due to Ronaldo’s attraction to big clubs and his higher aim of moving to a Champions League club.
It was expected that Ronaldo’s previous agent, Mendes would play a role in the veteran’s most recent career move after he made it clear that he was ready to move on from Manchester United as early as last summer.
However, Ronaldo’s long-time agent Mendes played no role in the negotiations with Ricardo Regufe instead representing the veteran Portuguese striker.
And the last straw that broke the camel’s back was Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive Piers Morgan interview which served as an assertive goodbye to his super-agent Jorge Mendes ahead of his shocking departure from the Red Devils.
It has since been claimed that the 2016 Euro winner, Ronaldo went against his previous adviser’s warning of going through with the controversial interview and indeed signing a mega-money deal with Al-Nassr after Ronaldo remained without a club during the World Cup.
Now, it has been assumed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision of going on with the interview and signing a contract with Al-Nassr were ultimate signs of disrespect to the 57-year-old Portuguese, Jorge Mendes.
Revelation from a source claiming to be a friend of both Ronaldo and Mendes reported by French outlet L’Equipe further disclosed how things deteriorated between the pair.
The source claimed the disappointed split was heavy on Ronaldo’s long-time agent, saying: “From Mendes’ point of view, the interview [with Morgan] was a huge f*** off.
“It’s like a divorce for him. It’s like his wife were to dump him, and he even knows her lover.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has been enjoying a bright start to life with the Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr FC.
The Portuguese skipper netted a brace on his first appearance in Saudi Arabia as an all-star Saudi XI took on French giants Paris-Saint Germain, with the match eventually finishing 5-4 in PSG’s favor.
The 38-year-old legendary goal scorer Ronaldo has also been in amazing form in competitive action for his new side single-handedly scoring four goals against Al-Wehda.
However, despite his electric form at the Saudi club, boss Rudi Garcia allegedly claimed that the Portuguese days at Al-Nassr might not be long following a potential return to European football.
Speaking last month, Garcia said: “He is one of the best players in the world. He will not finish his career at Al-Nassr, he will return to Europe.”
