Cole Palmer has given fans an insight into the apparent disagreement with his Chelsea teammates over a second-half penalty during their 6-0 smashing of Everton.
Palmer was sublime on the night, tucking home 4 well-taken goals, 3 regular goals, and 1 via the spot.
His last goal during the encounter was what elicited an argument, as his teammates, particularly Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson were also itching to get their name on the score sheet.
However, Cole Palmer was defiant to their wishes, as he went on to take the penalty, being the designated spot-kick taker for the Blues.
The Englishman has had a staggering season in London, since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €47 million.
Palmer has scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions this season.
His 4th goal of the night put him level with current top scorer Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot, with Cole Palmer having netted 20 league goals thus far.
Cole Palmer on penalty argument with Madueke and Jackson
Speaking on the penalty drama that occurred during the cracking win for Chelsea, Cole Palmer indicated that it probably “was a bit of an over-the-top argument”.
However, he noted that it was due to the team’s fighting spirit and desire to win, Palmer during an interview with Sky Sports said:
“Other players wanted to take it which was understandable, the game was 4-0. But I’m the penalty taker and I wanted to take it so I took it.
“But I think we are just trying to show that everyone wants to take responsibility and stuff like that. Maybe it was a bit of an over-the-top argument, but everyone wants to win and help.
“But it was nothing major and we were laughing and joking about it. But the gaffer has told us now.”
Mauricio Pochettino warns Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke over penalty saga
Moreover, Mauricio Pochettino bashed Madueke and Jackson for their display during the penalty incident, affirming that Palmer is the assigned spot-kick taker.
He also warned that if such a display is repeated, Noni Madueka and Nicolas Jackson face the possibility of being dismissed from the first team.
Pochettino said: “First of all, I want to tell you to make clear that they know, the players know, the staff know, the club know that the taker on penalties is Cole Palmer.
He added: “I told them this is the last time I accept this type of behavior. They’re all, involved in this situation, all out next time.”
“This is not a joke. It is impossible after a performance like this.”
Meanwhile, it would interest you to recognize the brilliance of Cole Palmer this campaign, as he has scored all nine penalties he has taken in the Premier League thus far.
Only Yaya Toure, who netted 11 penalties out of 11 during his time in England, has a better 100% conversion rate from the spot in the history of the Premier League than Cole Palmer.
Anyway, Chelsea return to action on Saturday, April 20, 2024, facing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the semi-finals of the English FA Cup.
The Blues have not lost against the Cityzens this term and they will be banking on the brilliance of Cole Palmer to lead them to victory.
The team that comes out tops in the fixture will play against Manchester United or Coventry City in the final of the oldest cup competition in the world.
