Cody Gakpo is still interested in joining Manchester United in January after he made an impression at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
After doing well in this year’s World Cup and Eredivisie, the Dutch winger wants to move on.
Gakpo reportedly desired a summer transfer to Manchester United in the last transfer window, but nothing came of it.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano asserts that talks between the club and the player’s agency have always been productive and that it is now up to the Red Devils to decide whether to pursue a deal.
The Dutch club PSV admits they may have to sell in January and is seeking £52 million for their talisman. PSV and United officials are now in negotiations.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, a manager and former United hero, recently said: “If I have the choice, I prefer the summer, but it can also be now, you know there comes a time when you can’t say no.”
Gakpo scored three goals for the Netherlands in Qatar, demonstrating his ability to perform on the biggest platform.
The 23-year-old has been in fantastic form for his team, scoring 13 goals and dishing out 17 assists in just 24 games.
Due to Cristiano Ronaldo departing the team, Man United is aiming to add more forwards during the upcoming transfer window.
Gakpo, who typically plays on the left, would free up Marcus Rashford to occupy the No. 9 position by moving inside.
More obvious strikers like Goncalo Ramos and Memphis Depay have also been linked to Erik ten Hag’s team.
But given that Real Madrid is apparently keeping an eye on Gakpo, if United don’t sign him in January, they run the risk of losing out entirely.
Gakpo came very close to moving to Southampton and Leeds in the summer, but he stayed at PSV in the hopes that a bigger team would come after him.
Cody Gakpo
A winger for Eredivisie club PSV and the Netherlands national team, Cody Mathès Gakpo was born in the Netherlands on May 7, 1999.
Gakpo, a PSV academy alum, debuted for the team’s first squad in February 2018. He was named the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2021–2022 after tallying 21 goals across 47 games in all competitions.
Between the ages of 18 and 21, Gakpo represented the Netherlands in youth international football.
He participated in Euro 2020 in June 2021, making his senior international debut.
Gakpo was raised in the Stratum neighborhood after he was born in Eindhoven. While his mother is Dutch, his father was born in Togo and has Ghanaian root.
Gakpo For Netherlands
Gakpo was qualified to compete for Ghana, Togo, or the Netherlands at the international level. He represented the Netherlands in youth international football at the under-18, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels.
Gakpo made his UEFA Euro 2020 debut against North Macedonia in the third round of the group stage as a substitute in the 79th minute for Frenkie de Jong after being called up to the senior Netherlands team.
He so became the first Dutch player since Martien Vreijsen in 1980 to make his international debut in a European Championship.
He was selected for the 2022 World Cup team and had a quick impression, scoring three goals in three games against Senegal in Group A, Qatar and Ecuador.
How Good Is Cody Gakpo?
Gakpo, who is frequently used on the left wing, frequently cuts inside with his right foot to move to a more central offensive position.
He then uses his speed and dribbling prowess to outrun opponents until he finds the opening to attempt a goal.
