Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, has stated that he will ‘calmly examine all options before making a choice on his future.’ The Reds and Arsenal have taken notice of the PSV Eindhoven winger after his steady displays for the Dutch giants this season.

Gakpo progressed through the PSV junior system before making his senior debut in the 2017-18 season. This season has been his breakout season, with 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. Thanks to his efforts, PSV finished second in the Eredivise table, two points behind champions Ajax.

Despite being only 23 years old and having an outstanding 2021–22 season, the winger’s transfer market value is just £22.5 million. Gakpo stated that he will choose his future based on what is best for him. He however added that he’s willing to stay at PSV for another year.

“This summer could bring anything. Now I’ll calmly weigh all of my alternatives to see which is the best fit for me. It’s also possible to stay another year. It would be a pity if I moved somewhere where I couldn’t find work and missed the World Cup. That is something I will remember. ” he said according to the Liverpool Echo.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino have little over a year left on their Liverpool contracts. Unless the trio signs new contracts in the next few months, their futures will be uncertain come summer. If one of Mane, Salah, or Firmino leaves the club, the Reds may try to recruit Gakpo.

During April, Arsenal appeared to be the favorite to finish in the top four. Due to losses to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, they are currently in fifth place in the league table, two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with only one game remaining. Some believe the Gunners’ lack of skill and depth are to blame for their recent drop in form. As a result, they’ll be looking to make some smart signings this summer.

Due to the fierce rivalry for game time at Anfield, Cody Gakpo may prefer a move to Arsenal over Liverpool. The Reds have perhaps one of the finest offenses in the world right now. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz have all scored over 20 goals this season in all competitions.

Due to the performances of the aforementioned players, Roberto Firmino, a key member of the club’s starting lineup over the years, has had to settle for a supporting role in recent months.

Arsenal is considering parting ways with Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe. After sliding down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, the former Lille star is reportedly keen to depart. As a result, the club will be looking to sign a top-tier winger to provide backup and competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
