Christian Eriksen scored for Denmark in a 3-0 win over Serbia at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, his first match there since his cardiac attack last year.

Eriksen fell on the same pitch during a Euro 2020 match against Finland in June, and the Brentford midfielder’s comeback was met with tearful scenes.

Eriksen, the game’s captain, scored his country’s third goal in the 57th minute with a superb shot from 22 yards.

In the friendly win, Joakim Maehle and Jesper Lindstrom also scored.

But the day belonged to Eriksen, who was returning at the location where he had nearly died 290 days before.

Christian Eriksen fainted in the first half of the match against Finland, with no players near him, after suffering heart arrest.

Eriksen later stated that he “died for five minutes” before being awakened and taken to the hospital by teammates and medics.

Eriksen, 30, was then provided with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which is a form of pacemaker, so that he could continue working.

However, he had to leave Inter Milan due to the fact that players with an ICD device are not permitted to play in Italy’s Serie A, before rejoining Brentford in the Premier League.

He came on and scored in Denmark’s 4-2 loss to the Netherlands on Saturday, and he was greeted by a raucous reception by Danish supporters in Copenhagen on Tuesday, with a banner reading ‘Welcome back Christian.’

Eriksen played a part in Denmark’s opening goal, as his left-wing corner was only partially cleared, allowing Maehle to fire low into the net from 25 yards.

Lindstrom added a second when he was free in the penalty area early in the second half, before Eriksen gave the supporters exactly what they wanted four minutes later with a well-taken goal.

Eriksen, who could play for Denmark in the World Cup in Qatar later this year, was replaced in the 79th minute to a standing ovation.
