Christian Eriksen has used Chelsea football club to score his first Premier League goal since he returned to the league on January 31, 2022.
Recall that Christian Eriksen played for Tottenham Hotspur between August 30, 2013, and January 28, 2020, before he left the club for Italian Serie A club, Inter Milan.
He spent over a year at the Italian club before he followed his country, Denmark to Euro 2020 which took place between June 11 and July 11, 2022. Unfortunately for him, in Denmark’s first game in the tournament which was against Finland, the 30-year-old attacking midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest and was brought back to life after a CPR procedure.
Christian Eriksen was taken to the hospital and had to undergo surgery through which a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) was implanted in him to help his heart function.
Due to the ICD in him, Inter Milan had to terminate the contract they have with him because laws in Italy don’t permit athletes to have devices implanted in them.
Hence, Christian Eriksen was without a club between December 17, 2021, and January 31, 2022. Brentford gave him a chance to return to professional football on the deadline date of the January transfer window.
Since he returned to the club, he has played three Premier League games. His third league game was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
He and his Brentford teammates stunned the reigning UEFA Champions League champions with four goals in 90 minutes. Eriksen scored his club’s second goal in the 54th minute of the game which marked his first Premier League goal since 2020.

Even though Chelsea enjoyed 71 percent of the ball possession, the Premier League game ended 4-1 in favor of Brentford.
The embarrassing home defeat to Chelsea is the second time in the history of the club that a newly promoted club defeated the London-based club with 3+ goals. The first time Chelsea and the club’s coach Thomas Tuchel suffered such humiliation was in April 2021 when West Brom defeated the club 2-5.
As it stands, the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford will mount more pressure on Chelsea in their quest to finish in the top four. Currently, Chelsea are sitting on the 3rd spot with 59 points in 29 Premier League games, five points away from 4th placed Arsenal which have a game in hand.
The stats of Christian Eriksen since he recovered from the cardiac arrest he suffered in 2021
Christian Eriksen was expected not to play professional football again after suffering a cardiac arrest in June 2021. But after waiting for almost a year, he returned to professional football, thanks to Brentford.
In every opportunity Eriksen has, he always used it to prove that he deserves a second chance to play professional football again for both his club, Brentford, and his country, Denmark.
In his last four games for both Denmark and Brentford, Eriksen has scored three goals and provided an assist. He is gradually becoming a player Brentford will count on in their quest to survive in the Premier League this season. The club is currently sitting on the 14th spot with 33 points in 31 games.
Meanwhile, the current form of Christian Eriksen will make it difficult for Brentford not to renew his contract before it expires on June 30, 2022. In the same vein, it has increased Eriksen’s chance of following Denmark to the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
