The manager of Chelsea football club, Thomas Tuchel has finally tasted defeat in the Premier League for the first time since he arrived at the club in January 2021. West Brom stunned Chelsea 2-5 at Stamford Bridge today, April 3, 2021, to end the club’s unbeaten run under the German coach.

The 47-year-old German tactician joined the club weeks after he was sacked by Paris Saint Germain for an undisclosed administrative purpose. He replaced coach Frank Lampard who spent just 18 months at the club.

Since Tuchel arrived at the club, Chelsea have been recording outstanding results which have been unprecedented especially in the Premier League where they were having a tough time before his arrival.

He went on to lead Chelsea in 14 matches in all competitions. In those matches, Chelsea recorded 10 wins and 4 draws which represent an unprecedented turnaround at the club.

The outstanding form Thomas Tuchel brought to Chelsea helped the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final stage after knocking out Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 stage of the competition.

He has also helped to keep Chelsea in the semi-final stage of the FA Cup in which the London club is scheduled to play against Manchester City on April 17, 2021.

However, struggling West Brom put an end to Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten run in a league game which ought to be an easy win for the London-based club.

Chelsea started the game on a good note with an early goal from Christian Pulisic in the 27th minute. But the good start did not last long especially after the club’s defender, Thiago Silva received a red card in the 29th minute.

Immediately the veteran defender was sent out of the game, West Brom had more space to operate and was more noticeable in the additional minutes of the first half which saw West Brom scored two successive goals through the boots of Costa Pereira.

West Brom made it three in the second half of the match through the boots of Robinson in the 63rd minute. While Diagne made it four for the visitors in the 68th minute.

Chelsea’s Mason Mount got one back in the 71st minute and it was looking like Chelsea was about to stage a comeback which didn’t happen. Robinson scored a late goal in the additional minute of full time to end the game 5-2 in favor of West Brom.

The 2-5 win has managed to take West Brom to the 19th spot on the league table with 21 points in 30 games, seven points away from safety. While the defeat has left Chelsea hanging on the 4th spot with 51 points in 30 games, 2 points above 5th placed West Ham who still have a game in hand.
