Chelsea are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window, with several players expected to be sold or released in the coming summer transfer window.
The London club are looking to address key areas of their squad in preparation for the 2024/25 season.
With Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, Chelsea have experienced an inconsistent season, currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table.
The Argentine’s position at the club will be evaluated in the summer after winning 12, drawing eight, and losing 10 of their 30 Premier League matches under his management.
Meanwhile, Pochettino announced after the recent 2-2 draw against Sheffield United that Chelsea will thoroughly assess the squad and the current situation at the end of the season to work on enhancing the resources available to them.
Emphasizing that it is a typical procedure, the Argentine coach stated that this evaluation is necessary for the club’s improvement.
Pochettino said: “It is a normal process that has happened”
“We need to accept, work, and try to fix this type of problem. Always when the end of the season arrives, we need to analyze the squad and what we are missing to try to add people with the capacity to provide what we are seeing today, to improve in the next seasons.”
To acquire what they are lacking, Chelsea must consider selling players who do not align with their long-term vision.
Due to the strict enforcement of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules by the Premier League this season, many clubs are opting to offload academy talent to generate significant profits.
Just like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, and Tammy Abraham, promising young talents like Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, and Lewis Hall could find themselves on a similar path out of Chelsea in the future.
Gallagher’s future with the Blues is uncertain as talks of a contract extension are yet to begin, leaving a cloud of doubt hanging over the midfielder as his current deal nears its end.
In the same vein, Chalobah who has been impressive recently may be considered expendable in the upcoming transfer window, with Chelsea looking to offload him after a failed move to Bayern Munich last summer.
According to reports, Chelsea are already scouting other potential center-backs from Europe as they plan for the summer transfer window.
A report from a reliable source revealed that Hall is set to make a permanent move to Newcastle United in the summer.
The 19-year-old is currently on loan at St. James’ Park and he’s expected to join the Magpies for £35million.
Similarly, Broja could be leaving Chelsea for good in the upcoming transfer window. Despite the club’s attempts to sell him in January, a loan deal to Fulham was the best option due to the low spending in the Premier League.
West Ham United are also interested in signing the 22-year-old forward.
Additionally, Thiago Silva will be leaving the club as a free agent at the end of June when his contract expires.
Other players at Chelsea are likely to be transferred in the summer, including Malang Sarr who has not played for the club in almost two years.
Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Hakim Ziyech, currently on loan, will also face an exit from the club.
Lucas Bergstrom has just over a year remaining on his contract and with a very competitive goalkeeping pool at Stamford Bridge, the shot-stopper could be sold on a permanent deal.
What’s next for Chelsea?
Despite a disappointing campaign in the Premier League, Chelsea could salvage some success by winning the FA Cup. They face tough competition from Manchester City in the semi-finals later this month.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to shift their focus on their clash with Everton in the Premier League. The match is set to take place on Sunday, April 15 at Stamford Bridge with kick-off scheduled at 8:00 pm.
