Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana used vaseline on his goalkeeper gloves during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The Red Devils dent Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes with a dramatic 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for the Merseyside club after a marathon of pressure before Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser from 50 yards pegged the visitors to a 1-1 draw.

In the 67th minute, Kobbie Mainoo scored from inside the box to put United in front against the run of play but the lead was shortlived as Salah scored from the spot to make it 2-2 in the 84th minute.

Andre Onana stoked reactions in the game after he was as seen in a footage rubbing vaseline on his goalkeeper gloves.

It was not the first time, the Cameroonian shotstopper had been seen using the petroleum jelly on his gloves. He reportedly applied it earlier this season during Manchester United’s Premier League match against West Ham United.

While Onana’s usage of vaseline in the Liverpool match appeared unusual to football fans, Futballnews learned that the Man United goalie is not the first goalkeeper that uses vaseline. Goal reports that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been spotted once using the product.

Why do goalkeepers use Vaseline on their gloves?

According to Keeper Balm, goalkeepers use vaselines to strengthen the fiber of their hand gloves and make it resistant to liquid and wet conditions.

It helps the goalkeepers boost their save rates as it increases the friction between the surface of the ball and the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Andre Onana was instrumental in United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool. He faced 14 attempts alone in the first half and made important saves to secure a point for the home side.
