Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and have a comparatively high wage bill already in place to compete with other clubs. In the top flight, only Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool pay a higher average wage to their players.
The club fans weren’t expecting too much from the team at the beginning of the season due to the summer transfer ban. But the club did sign Christian Pulisic and Mateo Kovacic before the ban was put in place. However, the club won their appeal and they were finally free to dip into the transfer market.
Manager Frank Lampard has placed his trust in a number of young players like Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori. Some of those players have proven to be more than good enough for both the Premier League and Champions League level.
However, it is the more experienced players that are leading the salary list as the likes of Willian, N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud are among the most well-paid aces in the squad. A worthy of note is Kante, who has been one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League and was arguably the key figure when they last won the title in 2017.
According to Sportrac, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and star midfielder Kante are the two top earners as they both make £150,000 a week. The Spanish the most expensive goalkeeper in the world. He has, however, been good value for his wages, but he’s also made several high-profile errors.
They are closely followed by January signing Christian Pulisic as well as Willian and Hudson-Odoi, who recently signed a lucrative five-year deal worth £120,000 a week.
