Two times UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea have joined their Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Ajax winger Antony this summer although the 22-year-old is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The Blues met with Antony’s agents to discuss a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
Note that Antony had this breakthrough during the 2021/22 season at Ajax where he finished with double figures for both goals and assists and earned himself an international call-up into the Brazil national team.
Current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was the manager who helped Antony to develop into a top player.
Erik ten Hag who’s working to improve his team ahead of next season has revealed that he wants to sign the winger. Manchester United have already discussed this with Antony’s agents when they visited England a few weeks ago.
Antony has expressed a desire to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena in the coming summer but has not made public his desired destination.
Hence, United might have to contend with Chelsea because they are now interested in signing the Brazilian. According to sources, while his agents were recently in the UK, Chelsea met with them over a switch to the club.
Since then, the London club has been keeping an eye on the Brazilian’s status as they continue to look for attacking reinforcements.
Also, Chelsea are interested in signing Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona and Raheem Sterling of Man City.
The Blues are more confident of landing Ousmane Dembele this summer because his contract with Barcelona has expired and he could join them as a free agent. However, they’re waiting for the outcome of a fresh contract discussion between the Frenchman and Barcelona.
Chelsea have also reached out to Manchester City to talk about a deal for Raheem Sterling or Gabriel Jesus. The two Man City strikers are willing to leave the club this summer and they won’t be stopped.
Although Gabriel Jesus is likely to switch to Arsenal, Raheem Sterling may end up with Chelsea.
The England striker has allegedly shown interest in signing for Chelsea by asking how it feels to work with Thomas Tuchel.
Another Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku signed a new contract with RB Leipzig on Thursday, June 23, until 2026.
The Blues need a new forward after Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on a loan deal this week. The Belgian joined Chelsea last season after helping Inter to win the Italian Serie A but failed to replicate the form he had in Italy.
