Chelsea have made a shock move to sign Manchester City’s young forward Julian Alvarez. The Blues, who have secured their first defender signing – Tosin Aderabioyo – this summer, are hoping to lit their attack ahead of the next campaign.

Known for his pacey runs, good linkup play, and knack for scoring goals, Alvarez has emerged as a top target for the Blues with reports the London outfit are ready to go all out for the player.

Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca is said to be a strong admirer of Julian Alvarez. The Italian had a feel of the player while he worked with Pep Guardiola as assistant manager before leaving for Leicester City in 2022.

According to Transfer Live, Maresca wants Chelsea to sign the youngster to boost the club’s attack.

Julian Alvarez joined Manchester City from River Plate in 2022. He has made 67 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals. The 24-year-old has struggled for game time at City following since the arrival of Erling Haaland.

He made 36 Premier League appearances for City in the last campaign but mostly coming off the bench. With a struggle for game time in Pep Guardiola’s setup, Alvarez would hope to become another Cole Palmer if he completes a move to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Futballnews understands the 2022 World Cup winner is still considered key player in Manchester City. A year after winning the World Cup with Argentina national, City tied down the youngster to another one-year contract, triggering the extension on his current deal which was set to expire in 2027.

However, there are still uncertainties over the future of the youngster at Etihad after he dropped down the pecking order in Guardiola’s attacking options.

The coming days will decide the fate of Chelsea’s interest in the player with Manchester City and Alvarez’s decision set to determine the outcome of the move.
