Wesley Fofana is reportedly interested in leaving Leicester for Chelsea but his current team has rejected two offers from the club, totaling more than £85 million.
According to rumors, Leicester City will continue to pick Wesley Fofana for their matchday squads in defiance of Chelsea’s attempts to sign the French defender.
Fofana is rumored to have become Chelsea’s top priority target. The club is still aiming to bolster its center defense before the summer transfer market closes next month.
Despite Chelsea’s obsession with bringing him to Stamford Bridge, Leicester has previously turned down at least two sizable offers from the Blues. Leicester is unwilling to part with its prized asset.
According to CBS Sports, Brendan Rodgers will start Fofana against Arsenal this weekend despite the lingering rumors about his future. The Foxes still intend to use Fofana at the center of their defense.
According to reports, Leicester’s answers to Chelsea’s initial two proposals for Fofana—who is committed to the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2027—were “quite dismissive.”
The two clubs are still in the middle of negotiations, but the Blues are now attempting to move the process along by making an effort to keep up a verbal back and forth.
But it appears that Leicester won’t move until Chelsea agrees to make Fofana the most expensive defender in the world by surpassing the sum spent by Manchester United to acquire Harry Maguire in 2019.
Fofana would undoubtedly be a wise signing for the Blues, who recently lost out on a lucrative transfer for Jules Kounde when Barcelona snatched up their planned agreement at the last minute.
According to reports, Thomas Tuchel is eager to add Fofana to his defensive lineup to support his summer completed acquisition, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
However, with Foxes manager Rodgers acting swiftly to end the uncertainty about the Frenchman’s near future on Thursday, Chelsea will have to work hard to persuade Leicester to sell up.
“There were two [bids] but nowhere near what the club would consider,” Rodgers told reporters. “We’re not looking to sell. Naturally if there’s interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club.
“He’s a top young defender and there are not too many around his age. Another year for him at least would be really important for his development.
“Wesley is quite calm on the situation. He is aware of the interest, he’s just getting on with his work.”
Since the end of the previous season, Chelsea have already spent more on new players than any other Premier League team, with new owner Todd Boehly splashing out over £175 million.
However, they don’t seem to be done yet, and in the not too distant future, they’ll be hoping to add Fofana from Leicester to their extensive list of exceptional performers.
