Chelsea have apparently forgiven Enzo Fernandez following his show of shame after Argentina’s 2024 Copa America triumph.

Recall, Fernandez was seen in a live video alongside some of his international teammates singing racial chants against players of France in their team bus.

The footage was met with disdain, as Enzo Fernandez was lambasted for being involved in such ugly activity.

Fernandez’s colleagues were also displeased by his actions and a handful made their grievances known via social media.

Players of Argentina were said to have been chanting the words which read: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says, French.”

France are believed to have sued Argentina after the video went viral on social media, with the governing body of football, FIFA, understood to be investigating the matter.

Subsequently, Chelsea also put out a statement on their website expressing their stance against racial and discriminatory behavior.

They wrote: “Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behavior completely unacceptable.

“We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities, and identities feel welcome.”

Enzo Fernandez’s Initially Public Apology Over Racial Chants

Before the statement by Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez had also publicly apologized on social media for singing racial chants against players of Les Bleus.

He wrote: “I want to apologize sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations.”

“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.

“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.

“That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”

Chelsea noted his apology in their statement, writing: “We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate.

“The Club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure.”

Enzo Maresca Reveals Enzo Fernandez Has Apologized To his Chelsea Teammates

Meanwhile, Fernandez has also apologized physically to his Chelsea teammates, having joined up with the Chelsea squad on Monday, July 29, 2024.

The apology is believed to have been accepted and Enzo Fernandez is training with his teammates in the United States ahead of a grueling 2024/25 season.

Speaking from the club’s pre-season base in the US, Blues boss Enzo Maresca said on Tuesday, July 30, 2021: “We all feel very comfortable, very good. Enzo is back, he had a chat with all of us to clarify there was no bad intention. The lads, they all accept it.”

Maresca further said that the issue had been clarified, with the players being in oneness, “speaking” and “laughing” together.

The Italian said: “Everything was like before, the players were all together, all speaking, all laughing.

“There is no mystery, we’ve clarified the situation and there is nothing more to add. We all make mistakes. Enzo has apologized and his teammates have accepted it.”

Reports also indicate that Fernandez has told Chelsea he will be making a significant contribution to an anti-discrimination charity.

Discussions are currently ongoing to decipher the best place where the funds will be donated and a conclusion is yet to be made.

His donation will be directed towards funding anti-racism campaigns and providing anti-discrimination education.
