Chelsea have reportedly extended the contracts of Chelsea duo, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk in another shocking move by the club.

The duo, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2023, are set for a longer spell with the Blues following the reported new extension agreement.

Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea on a record £107m transfer from Portuguese outfit Benfica while Mykhailo Mudryk switched to the London outfit from Russian giants Shakhtar Donetsk for £88m.

The pair cost the Blues a whopping £198m, taking a huge chunk of Todd Boehly’s 2023 summer splurge.

Notably, Chelsea tied the new intakes with long-term contracts. Enzo Fernandez signed a nine-year contract which will expire in 2032 while Mykhailo Mudryk signed a seven-year contract which will expire in 2031.

With more years left on their contracts, it is still unclear why Chelsea have decided to extend their contracts.

Meanwhile, there is still no clues on the conditions, terms, and duration of the new extension.

While the Blues have not officially confirmed the extensions, an FA statement confirmed the Blues’ starlets have had their contracts ‘updated.’

Futballnews understands Chelsea are on the Premier League radar for potential breaches of Premier League financial rules after Todd Boehly’s record £1bn on transfers since he took over the club in 2022.

It is understood the West London outfit stealthily plucked loopholes in Premier League financial regulations by intentionally brokering longer contract durations with their new intakes.

All Chelsea new signings under the watch of Todd Boehly are tied to contracts of over five years in duration.

The move allowed the club to bypass Premier League financial scrutiny as their net spend on the signed players is spread over the duration of the players’ contract.

We reported earlier the Premier League had moved to block the loophole by not allowing clubs to spread their transfer spending on players for more than five years.

While the Blues’ motive to extend the contract of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk is yet unclear, experts believe it is another ploy by the club to perfect strategies to escape Premier League sanctions.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk are not the only players who have signed extensions with the Blues. Lewis Hall, who is on loan to Newcastle United, has also signed an extension, including Alfie Gilchrist.

Close sources reveal more Chelsea starlets, who arrived in the wake of Todd Boehly’s billion pounds transfer raid, are set to commit to extensions as well despite having more years left on their contracts.
