Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger has a great influence during the Champions League match against Lille on Tuesday night. While Tammy Abraham and Cezar Azpilicueta let the Blues win 2-1 over Lille.

The Germany centre-back returns to replace Fikayo Tomori who has been filling his space to play against the French side. But Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard can not rule out the excellent workforce of Rudiger.

Though, Tomori’s effort in their previous games is huge, yet the London club can not overlook the fact about Rudiger. That confidence has been less in recent Chelsea efforts.

So, Having recorded their feeble defence against West Ham and Everton loss reveals the involvement of the German. The Blues midfielders, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho maintains the pressure at the centre of the pitch.

However, a little lapse hit the Blues after Lampard’s second-half changes in the forwards. Introducing Callum Hudson-Odoi and Michy Batshuayi to replace Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham respectively. 

Meanwhile, the 19th-minute goal by Abraham and 35th-minute of Azpilicueta led Chelsea ahead. Till the last 20 minutes to the end of the match when the attacks on Lampard’s team rose. Loic Remy’s 78 minutes goals haunt the blues and nearly hit their succession to the knockouts.

Also, Lampard needs to fix his defence if they are to keep moving forward in the Champions League. The team who only had a 1-0 clean sheet win in the third round against Ajax. And suffered a 1-0 loss to Valencia in their first fixture. 

The blues will have to tidy up for the knockout stages after finishing as runners-up to Valencia. With the Spanish side keeping a 1-0 away victory over the semi-finalists and drop them out of the competition.

They are likely to face one of Barcelona, RB Leipzig, PSG, Juventus or Bayern Munich in the knockout stages. Anyway, Chelsea will know their next opponent after the draw on Monday with the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues also prepares for a home tie against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. And, Lille who has never met with the Blues in European competition fell 2-1 in both legs respectively.
